Richard Gere saddles up for a Peruvian vacation with his wife

Richard Gere is known for his spirtual journeys, and his love of embracing other cultures and beliefs. So it comes as no surprise that the actor chose to make a second pilgrimage to Peru's historical Inca citadel of Machu Pichu, this time with his whole family.

Gere, 61, was was joined by wife Carey Lowell and 10-year-old son Homer for what he described as a 'vacation' but he also admitted to locals that the trio had planned to climb to the top of Huayna Picchu.

Sadly the weather had other ideas, and the expedition had to be cancelled. Gere posed for photos in front of the bronze plaque commemorating the explorer Hiram Bingham who discovered Machu Picchu for the Western world. He also signed autographs for fans by the stone plaque paying tribute to the people who lived in the area before Bingham’s arrival in 1911.

Happily for the Pretty Woman legend, wife Carey, 50 , and their 11-year-old son Homer, they were able to nip over to Uruguay to attend the launch of beach restaurant 'La Huella' at the Punta del Este resort.

Gere forgot about the controversy surrounding his latest film as he relaxed with friends in the resort

This backs up speculation that the acclaimed Inn owner is looking to invest in a property to run as a hotel in this most spiritual region of South America. Gere has been appointed as the 2011 ambassador of French hotel group Relais and Chateaux, who have also taken on his 8 bedroom inn outside New York, The Bedford Post.

He's widely expected to add to his hotel chain over the next year. It must come as a welcome reprieve from the trouble dogging his latest film project, Arbitrage. Writer/director Nicholas Jarecki filed a lawsuit in New York federal court against a producer he claims is attempting to hijack his coming film about, irony of ironies, a big financial mistake.

The film, which is also set to star Susan Sarandon is about a troubled hedge fund magnate desperate to complete the sale of his trading empire. The protagonist turns for an unlikely person to help him when he makes an error. As life imitates art, Jarecki turned to Michael Ohoven at Infinity media to help get him started

But the pair had a disagreement and are now embroiled in a dispute about who has a right to make the film. No wonder, with this ongoing in his professional life, that Gere enjoys the tranquility of South America.
