No Friday jitters for Akki

Akshay Kumar says he's stopped worrying about the numbers game, about being insecure about his stardom being subject to hits and flops.

Akshay therefore, has stopped having Friday jitters and goes about the business of concentrating on numerous acting assignments simultaneously, he tells us. His next venture, Anees Bazmee's "Thank You", where he teams up with Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Suniel Shetty and Irrfan Khan, releases on April 8, but the actor is in London and busy shooting for "Desi Boyz".

His last release, "Patiala House", got him favourable reviews, for his performance, and strengthened his position as one of those actors who manage three to four releases each year that cut across many genres, from social dramas to romantic and even slapstick comedies. Akshay's contemporaries and competitors in the film industry liken him to a "Mr Dependable" of sorts. Says Aamir Khan, "Akshay is actually one of the most dependable names in the business. He is a great looker, a fabulous dancer and a huge star. When you reach the stage where guys like Akshay, Hrithik, Shah Rukh, Salman and I are, I honestly don't think one should harp about a hit and flop routine. The important thing is to do good work; work that one believes in, like Akshay has been doing."

Kareena Kapoor, who has reportedly been offered a role opposite Akshay in Ekta Kapoor's "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai"'s sequel, says, "I'm not sure yet whether I'm going to be in the "OUATIM" sequel or not. I'm not at liberty to speak about it at this point. But I'm looking forward to doing a film with Akshay by the end of the year."

Filmmaker Nikhil Advani too, is keen to make his next with Akshay. "He gave a terrific performance in "Patiala House". For as long as Akshay wants to work with me, I'll try and find subjects suitable for him. He's not only a very big star, he is also a very dependable and disciplined actor," he says. Sonakshi Sinha, who's doing Shirish Kunder's "Joker" and Prabhu Devaa's untitled venture with the Khiladi, says, "I'm fortunate that after Salman Khan, I got to do my next film with another superstar like Akshay. Not many newcomers get opportunities like this."
