For EAD ,the documentation is pretty simple and straightforward.
Please goto USCIS site and take a look at I765 form and the associated instructions. Once you spend 15 minutes on that, you will have most questions answered yourself. For the ones you have doubts, please post back.

Best thing to do is, go out, take a stamp and reenter. No harm in that. If the I-94 is not attached to the approved L1A, then it is illegal otherwise it is legal.

So what exactly is meant by this switching? How/What does it affect? Where or how you/company/USICS decide whether you are on H1 or EAD?

But in case of switching from H1b to EAD (while working for H1b/GC sponsoring employer), there is no termination, changes in the employee�s eligibility or change in job duties. So no requirement to cancel H1b.

The OP poster was not scorning against the average american, I think you are mixing two issues up, I am sure he has done his share of charity work, and he probably sympathizes with families who don't have a job, I don't think you can direct your anger against him.
This is a capitalistic society not a communist or a socialist society, the market will/should balance itself out, new industries come up, people get hired, if the attitude of the people is protectionist, which it is, it stifles innovation and growth, which in turns stifles the growth of new companies, which in turn would have helped the folks laid off get a job. Being emotional is OK, but one must be pragmatic. That said, i believe charity begins at home, one must take care of its own kith and kin before extending arms to others.

C'mon guys, you are supposed to be the smartes of the smart here. The bill referenced above has nothing for EB-immigrants true, but it is not the Bill proposed in the US House for CIR in 2010 (it has ZERO Co-sponsors), the "good one" is HR 4321 (93 co-sponsors):

since it is a personal choice, you can go-ahead with paper filing, below are the documents that you need;
Covering Letter for EAD
Filled I-765 Form
Cashier/Personal Check
Copy of I485 Receipt Notice
Copy of your Passport
Copy of your DL
Copy of your I94 obtained at POE
Copy of your H1 approval with I-94, if your I94 obtained at POE expired.

No one is saying this is what is going to happen 100%. It is all educated guess with whatever data in hand as of today.
Any person who has filed labor 2+years back would be having the required data to guess the PD. Most of the people know more than immigration attorney in US about the entire labor process. USCIS is educating all of us with immigration law, senate, congress, Bills and the entire US political system.
If I get GC, I will try to become an attorney or a senator.

Some lenders do not lend to H1/EAD. So if the cheapest lender happens to not accept H1/EAD, then you did not get the cheapest rate.
In your case Wells Fargo happened to have the cheapest rate and they were also accepting H1.
I am on the look out for a loan currently. The guy with the cheapest rate (around 4.8%) does not give loans to H1/EAD folks. So I am forced to go with a guy who is accepting H1/EAD, but the rate is 5%.
When you shop around ask for rate quote and that time they won't ask your immigration status. If bank changes the rate based on your immi status, do not go with them.
I bought the house while I was on H1 4 years back (I am still using my H1 and I have an EAD now) and nobody asked me my imm status. I submitted the document at the time of doing paperwork but it did not change my rate. I got the best rate based on my credit from wells fargo.

I guess in that case there would be a conference between house and senate,and the conferees will be decided by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi,they would sort out the differences in the bill and then would send it back to house and senate for a vote.
